Unseeded Eric Butorac and Jamie Murray defeated No. 2 seeds Julian Knowle and Jurgen Melzer 7-5, 6-3, to capture the doubles title on Sunday at the Racquet Club of Memphis. It was the first doubles final to feature four players serving left-handed since June 24, 1995 in Nottingham as Luke and Murphy Jensen defeated Patrick Galbraith and Danie Visser.
Butorac and Murray, who captured their first ATP title last week in San Jose, defeated the top seeds of Erlich-Ram in the quarterfinals and they saved a match point in their semifinal victory over Benneteau and T. Johansson.
Murray said: "We played well today. Actually Eric wasn't feeling great but that kind of helped because we didn't feel the pressure. Eric served really well, returned really well. It was a good match. We played really well. We can't even get into the tournament next week (Las Vegas) which is the funny thing. We couldn't even get a wild card. So we may not even play for another five or six weeks with Indian Wells and Miami.
"It's been a great two weeks and we won in Dallas (Challenger) as well the week before that so it's been great. You win a few matches and you get some confidence. You win the deuce points - the key points - and it boosts your confidence." |
