Minnesota's Edlefsen loses in Tulsa
Nic Edlefsen Falls in Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Qualifying

University of Minnesota men’s tennis player Nic Edlefsen (Eden Prairie, Minn.) fell in the first round of qualifying play today at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Edlefsen, seeded 17th and ranked 84th, lost 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 to Benjamin Carlotti of North Carolina.

Edlefsen, a senior, opened with a strong 6-3 first set, but was overcome by strong baseline play from the Tarheel. Edlefsen will compete in the consolation bracket tomorrow. Edlefsen and senior D.J. Geatz begin doubles play tomorrow, while Geatz opens competition in the singles main draw on Thursday, Oct. 5.

The Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships are being hosted at the University of Tulsa’s Michael D. Case Tennis Center, from October 5-8. The tournament includes five days of qualifying events that precede the October 5-8 main draw. A 128-player pre-qualifying tournament takes place Sept. 30-Oct. 1. This feeds into 128-player and 64-doubles team qualifying tournaments Oct. 2-5, which then feeds into the 64-player, 32-doubles team main draws.

The Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships offer the first national singles and doubles titles of the 2006-07 collegiate tennis season, and are followed by the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November.
